X and Fluxbox :: Styles Performance
I was wondering how much difference do you think it really makes performance wise between the desktop styles. I believe "minimal" is the best performance wise, but what about "simple" and some of the other styles?
Can't give any empirical data, but I'd guess there might be a tiny performance hit with gradients, but the main performance factor would be the size of the background image - "minimal" doesn't have one, "simple" has a small centred one, whereas "tree and moon" has a full-screen one. But I doubt John would have let them in if there was much performance hit. And Kent's pretty mindfull of file size.
As Rogue Streak said, the background image is probably the only thing that would make a noticeable difference, although if you were using a more recent version of Fluxbox there may be other things that affect cpu and ram usage, such as if you were using transparency, shaped windows, and pixmaps.
I suppose using certain fonts could make a difference as well, though i couldn't say if it would be noticeable.
Thanks for your responses. I realize it seems pretty common sense, but I wanted some opinions from users who knew more about it than I.
