X and Fluxbox :: icons on desktop gone

HD install DSL 1.4.
Used DSL Download Extension Panel to install Update_to_GTK2; Gaim-1.3.1; trommler; OpenOffice.
Icons on desktop disappeared.
Icons are shown for half a second and then they disappear
- at starting fluxbox (boot)
- at Desktop - Full Enhanced Desktop, click
- at Desktop - Icons/Align, click

In menu Desktop these options: Full Enhanced Desktop; Icons/Align; No Icons; Wallpapers; Dock Apps>; Configuration>; Styles>; Workspaces>  (there is no option Icons or Show Icons or All Icons: ok?)

Menu Workspaces; last option is Icons> ; further Icons (as title, that's all).

my .xinitrc looks like this:
# put X windows programs that you want started here.
# Be sure to add at the end of each command the &
if egrep -qv noicons /proc/cmdline 2>/dev/null; then
enhance &>/dev/null &
fi
dillo /usr/share/doc/dsl/getting_started.html &>/dev/null &
fluxbox 2>/dev/null

Thanks in advance.

You can check for error messages by running the "xtdesk" command from a terminal.  I can't guarantee you'll get useful info from this, but it's a start.
I'm going to guess that the problem is with the trommler extension...I remember there was an issue with it a while ago, but don't remember if it was repaired.

The most common problem with xtdesk seems to be in a broken .lnk file.  Either the file is corrupted, or it is pointing to an image file that doesn't exist.  All it takes is one bad LNK file to bring the whole program down.

EDIT:  I just checked the current Trommler extension, and yes it is broken.  The /home/dsl/.xtdesktop/trommler.lnk file is still pointing to /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop/trommler.png.

I kinda lost interest in keeping trommler updated for DSL when they switched to gtk2.  I think eventually I'm going to be left behind if developers continue to bloat up their apps just for the sake of a few pretty widgets.

Hi,
your help is fantastic!
I followed your instructions and changed the /home/dsl/.xdesktop/trommler.lnk file
now pointing to /home/dsl/.xdesktop/trommler.png.
Problem solved!  Icons on desktop as I wanted it.
Thanks very much!
