X and Fluxbox :: what version of X?



funny thing: my old debian sarge install on my IBM Thinkpad 600 never did X right. the monitor is a nice crisp 14' 1024x768 and x only chose to use an annoying 800x600.

and yet DSL has always gotten it right, as long I select frame buffering and such in xsetup.

so my question is, what version of x is DSL using that seems to get it right out-of-the-box, and is there a .deb of the DSL xsetup for a normal debian install? I prefer building a debian system from base, getting only what I want. DSL is awesome for a quick go, and that's why i'm on it now, but I really prefer an all-out debian setup.

p.s. i'm sure the answer is on my computer or the web somewhere, but i cannot for the life of me find it after searching trough a kajilion files (i counted), so please don't think me lazy.
Xvesa, a lightweight X-server that's part of Xfree86 (and maybe Xorg). I guess the Xvesa that comes with DSL is based on Xfree 4.x.
