Other Help Topics :: Will DSL Live CD connect to net w Netzero?

No clue what that message means but it seems the system knows something is there. You can also try "scanpci"

It's early in the game to use pppconfig or modemconfig neither will work until a driver is loaded for the modem.

As I recall DSL is using Wvdial to config the modem, Com1 0r Com anything won't work at least with Lucent & HCF, HSF modems. The driver programs make new entries in /dev and make the symlinks from the device to the modem.

Take a look in /proc/bus/pci for info on the modem but I get the feeling this one is gonna be a real sweetheart to get going. It's tougher when you're new to Linux and with DSL you don't have the tools you'll probably need.

This website: Click Here has some information on your modem.. there are files called source files that can be compiled into modem drivers.

This is where linux gets nitty-gritty and is kinda like Organic Chemistry in college.

If you are able to understand and compile your own software from source code (it's really not as bad as it sounds!) then you usually become a linux junkie because doing so opens up a HUGE amount of FREE software that you can add to your system.

The above drivers are for Redhat and may not be compatible with DSL.. RedHat may already have those drivers included in their most recent distribution.

I am not sure how to install the appropriate additional programs  to compile source code in DSL. I have mostly used RPM based distributions (RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, Peanut) but I really like the Debian based distros like DSL.

If anyone knows what programs need to be installed into DSL to compile source code, please post! (I know you need GCC, make, etc.. but I would be guessing)
