Other Help Topics :: Modifying DSL

I'd like to alter my DSL too, but in a rather aggressive way; I'd like to alter the kernel to add in support for the forcedeth (url) driver for the nforce* NIC, as I can't currently connect through the LAN to the internet (damn NVidia for using a non-standard spec NIC)

How might I go about doing this? I'm worried about the breaking the auto-detection, and about my own ignorance :\
