I can get on the internet and to the site mentioned fine, but when I download I can't see it happening anywhere(no window) What I'd really like to know is how to install Firebird off my CD. Thanks.

Insert CD & as root type apt-cdrom add
which will add your cd to /etc/apt/sources.list
