Backup/Restore via .filetool.lst & .xfiletool.lst or even webdata, the backup/restore to an ftp server.

It is always good policy to have good separation of user data (dynamic) from system files (static). It makes for easier and smaller backup and restore of the dynamic data. That is the concept that is frugal. The same concept was used in the MyDSL system. That same concept can and should be applied to traditional installations.

Yeah, DSL Debian type installation was not made for upgrading.. Maybe do another install on a second partition, and then copy all your personal data over?
