Other Help Topics :: APM/ graceful shutdown
Hi,
On other linux distros I am using a module called powerswitch.so to run a clean shutdown when the ATX power switch is pressed. I think this is very desirable for my project which is a digital picture frame (hard drive based). epiacenter.com project page
I have no keyboard or anything but a powerswitch so the action of the powerswitch is very important. Right now, DSL shuts off hard on my box with an ATX switch press. This will trash the file system in no time I think. Is there any easy way to run "shutdown -h now" on a switch press???
I could give the powerswitch.so mod a shot on DSL, but it was a mess getting it to compile and run on a fully equipped RH 9 install. I really don't want to have to install compilers, make, kernel sources, etc. And this is assuming the APM stuff is there already. It would totally rock if I could include DSL as part of my project- I'd definately give it props in future articles.
use the shut down command from the fluxmenu..........................very clean
Hi,
This is a digital picture frame with no keyboard, mouse, etc. The only i/o device available is the ATX power switch. Therefore, I need the shutdown to happen upon the press of that button. Because the only other solution is to rip the plug out of the wall and that of course won't work either.
If someone can't give me a definative answer, that is fine- perhaps some help on where to look or what support may be included and what isn't... i.e. APM vs ACPI, etc.
Thanks
Brian
