Other Help Topics :: cdrecord problem

roberts:
-scanbus gives adds as 0,1,0.
see "edit" in previous post.
Thanks.
FYI
Gave cds that failed to a friend to test on his WinOS 'puter and they worked.

My burner is for r/w/rw for cd's only no dvd.

-scanbus reads:
0,0,0 0) Compaq CRD-8322B 1.07 Removable CD-ROM
0,1,0 1) ' RW-241040 1.02 Removable CD_ROM.

Have you used this burner before?
Did you try slow(er) speeds.
I typcially use a burn speed of 4

What about your dma settings?

Yes used it successfully from ver 3xx. Managed to burn ver 4.3 Also Tried various speeds from 24 through 4.
Did not change any basic settings through ver 4.3.
Never set dma for cdrom though I tried removing cdrom and using cdwriter only as master. Tried all three jumper settings MA SL CS on cdwriter as appropriate.

Note: when using this burner with WinOS I noticed the spinning was clearly audible but now it is barely audible
"OPC failed" constantly appears.

Yes, that error is consistent with the use of non-standard, or as we say SUBstandard media. Buy proper blanks or get a better DVD writer.

The OPC error would turn to the drive, since it appears in Windows too?

Thanks for the link curaga. Very similar to my problem.
Tried Livecd with dma but no success. (currently Frugal/Lilo system stats/boot reads nodma).
Still getting: "cdrecord warning drive returns wrong startsec (0) using -150".
Could that mean that the cdwriter is failing?.
Managed to burn one HP cd of 3.4.11 and strangely the cdburner could not read it but my old cdrom could. It starts dsl but with a gray screen and noicons. Did md5sum and it matched.

Tried with Memorex media and "cdrecord speed=4 dev=0,1,0 -data dsl-3.4.11.iso" still get that startsec error but it continued and the last line shows read/write with matching bytes but unable to mount the cdrom with that disc.
