Other Help Topics :: ps2 2 button + scroll wheel not working

I have a 2 button + scroll wheel  ps2 mouse(HP).  the 2 buttons are working fine. but the scroll wheel is not working.  things don't scroll at all.

I have read the forums help, but still cannot get it to work.

in Xsetup , I had chosen yes for "Wheelmice use Imps/2 protocol",  I have gone there and redone the setup at least 50 times, and then restarted "startx",  hoping it will work at some point but it never did  .

when I do  dmest | grep -i mouse, I get the following:-
root@box:~# dmesg | grep -i mouse
<6>mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice

the scroll wheel works in pasting though.  when I copy something and then press on the scroll wheel it pastes.

Looks like only the scrolling doesn't work.

can anyone help ?       why does the xsetup not work ?   Is there any file   that I can tweak manually to get it working ?

thanks

.xserverrc is the file. I have a ps2 wheel mouse and works great.
Here is my .xserverrc

exec /opt/bin/Xvesa -mouse "/dev/psaux",5 -screen 1024x768x32 -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null

thanks for the reply Roberts.
my .xserverrc is as follows:-
exec /usr/bin/X11/Xvesa -mouse /dev/psaux,5 -screen 800x600x24  -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null

but it doesn't work.
I have tried changing 5 to 7  to see if it would work. it doesn't .
do you have "/dev/psaux"  or  /dev/psaux ?

any idea what else I should be looking at ?

thanks

Hi is nobody able to resolve the problem?

I don't understand why the scroll wheel doesn't work, when it works fine with other distros.

another thing I have to add is when it is booting, it actually detects a ps2  wheel mouse. how come it is not working then ?
this is a section of the booting messages:

"mouse is generic ps/2 wheel mouse at /dev/psaux"

thanks

Hi Twilight32
On my P3 600mhz and P2 233mhz the two-button+scoll works fine. Only with SIAG does the scroll wheel not work unless you place the focus on the right scroll bar.

On my P3 info reads:
exec /usr/bin/X11/Xvesa -mouse /dev/psaux,5 -screen 1024x768x16  -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null.

By the way, accidently discovered that if one depresses the scroll wheel only it will paste.
Hope this helps.

PS 4.4.5 Frugal Lilo and straightforward installation with no modifications
