I have DSL installed to HD on another computer. It is going to be for my dad (who has a hard time remembering things). What I need to know is how to get it to boot with the icons already showing.

Easiest way is to edit the .xinitrc file in the home directory. Add just before the last line the following:

enhance &

fluxbox needs to be the last line in the file.

How do I find that file? I tried looking in the home dir w/ SciTE and can't find it.

It is a "hidden file" starts with a dot. The easiest way to find and edit it is using emelfm file manager.
Click on the filemanger icon and then near the top there is a "H" button to browse hidden files. Click that H and you should find it.
