Other Help Topics :: MyDSL menu on a HD install

okies, i figured out something cool.

(Note: this is written with instructions that even a first time DSL user should be able to follow, so if it seems to be stated rather simply, that's why. ^_^)

if you do a HD install, and then tar -zxvf the extensions, it doesnt geut you the nice pretty MyDSL menu, right?

well, it is possible to get it! just burn a MyDSL CD with the extensions you want and boot it up.

go to emelFM (or you can do it on the command line i guess) and click the "H" so that it will show hidden files. go to /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/ and copy the "menu" file to a floppy or USB key.

reboot into your DSL HD install and log on as root.

go to emelFM and click the "H" to make it show hidden files viewable.

pop in the floppy or USB drive with the "menu" file from the live CD on it and mount it. open one pane of emelFM to the disk and the other pane to /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/

delete the "menu" file in /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/ and copy the one from the CD to /home/damnsmall/.fluxbox/

repeat the process for /root/.fluxbox/ and enjoy your new pretty MyDSL menu on a HD install!

What do you mean by a "mydsl menu"?

I can't find any kind of menu like that.

Thanks.

Screenshot

the menu circled in blue is the myDSL menu. it has stuff like Abiword, Ace of Penguins, and OpenOffice. you know, all the new myDSL extentions stuff. ^_^

Oh OK.  I knew about that one.  I thought your reference to "pretty" meant there was another one somewhere else.  Thanks.
...are you saying that fluxbox isn't pretty enough for you!?!?

don't make me hurt you...

^^;; besides, any menu is prettier than no menu.

*visual threat of pain*
