I didn't realize that this thread is going on in two places, here and laptops.

Please do not format your usb devices as ext2. You will break the automated boot time restore capability. And thus not be able to use the saved X setup. See the thread under Laptops for the reasons.

The backup and restore are made to work with the usb device out of the box. No formatting required.
