Also tried apsfilter but am not having much luck. I chose the hpijs 1.1 or later driver but than the list after that does not contain my model so I chose the 1100 series photosmart thinking it is the closest one. In the interface setup I chose option 3 for Unix/Network Printer (lpd). I than have to enter in the machine name for the remote printer, I tried the ip address and the hostname of the printer. Next came the remote printer name which I have no idea because I didnt set one and I couldnt find it anywhere so I tried a few different things. The error message I am getting when trying to print a test page is:
sh: line 1: hpijs: command not found
GNU Ghostscript 7.05: Cant start ijs server "hpijs"

I think you need the PhotoSmart P1215 not the 1100,  or use the
9) various HP Deskjet drivers
and choose
15) - HP Deskjet 970Cxi Series [cdj970]

That's about all I can suggest  from the info in the PhotoSmart 2600 info page at linux printing   .............

In addition to the PhotoSmart P1215 this printer has a duplex unit (supported by the "hpijs", "cdj970", and "pcl3" drivers).

Good Luck

I tried the the options above of 9 and 15 in the menus without luck. When I try to enter the number 15 for the HP Deskjet 970Cxi Series I recieve an error saying that my gs version doesnt have that driver compiled in, same happened trying to use the pcl3 drivers. I had also tried the PhotoSmart P1215 but got an error similar to that of the 1100.

Unless someone comes forward with further info ........... I'd suggest getting a very recent live CD (like Kanotix 2005-04 RC17) and seeing if you can get the printer setup. If this works - then apt-get the same printer packages for DSL.

Hope you find an easier solution - it looks like a great printer.

Cheers
rob
PS I'm heading out of town for a few days. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Ok, I will try that. This is my first venture into trying to set up a printer in Linux so I really appreciate all of your advice.
