Apps :: Saving Progams

Hello my fellow DSL users, i am new to DSL but i must say i love it. I have a tiny problem though. I went into myDSl and into UCI and downloaded aMSN. I have used it and it works, but with a few teething problems, such as when i click my Inbox it comes up with an error saying "Can't execute application : mozilla $url. Check Preferences". Any help with this would be much appreciated. Moving on to real problem, when i have finished using DSL, i power down as normal. When i come to use DSL again, i boot as normal, to find aMSN is not there, i have to download it again. Why is this, i download to the directory /tmp, so i thought this was the problem but if i try to doanload to any other directory i get "Download or Checksum Error".
Any help would be much appreciated.

This is typical behaviour for DSL, and a topic that has been covered a bigillion times.
The system runs in RAM, so every time you reboot it reverts to its original state.  Any files created will be vaporized.
If you want to have applications loaded automatically, put the mydsl package in the base of the DSL installation...if KNOPPIX is on hda1, put the packages on the lowest level of hda1.

The error is probably caused by trying to save to a read-only directory.

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.
I have DSL installed on a 256mb mp3 player, so all i would have to do is download the package to the lowest level on sda1 and it should work? If you could please clarify this. Also, does anyone know anything about the "Can't execute application : mozilla $url. Check Preferences" error i keep getting? Thanks again.

so, if i may ask, i have similar issues,

regarding saving downloaded apps you said;

ME:  can this only be accomplished by installing dsl to the hd, or can this be done on the cd itself that we are booting with?

YOU: can put the files on the liveCD to accomplish the same thing.

If you want the extensions to load automatically, place them in the root directory of the CD (the very top level).  When you start the cd they will be loaded without you doing anything else (although some require initialization from the menu).

If you want to have the option of loading them or not, place the extensions in a directory called optional which you create in the top level of the cd.  Now they show up, ready for loading, in the right click menu under DSLmenu.

topic has now been covered a bigillion and one times :;):
