Apps :: Does gtk2-0705 work?

I can't get any gtk2 applications to work despite loading this library. I am running DSL 2.2b LiveCD on a Dell D600 laptop. The problem appears to be pango related. I have seen this problem identified in other posts, but I couldn't find a resolution.
