Apps :: Dillo
What getting started page are you refering too? the 2.2 getting started page does not include this info in the last paragraph..the last is the store. and any quick scan of it will find nothing to this end..if it has been added to newer versions that is great.. but those who have aquired otherwise are in need of the know...it is true that instruction is often tossed aside for live and learn..often this is caused by repeated experience...appliance instructions usually offer very limited information, often so lacking in usefull information that it has become common place to discard them...in the case of dsl..the getting started page actually IS very helpful due to the difference of linux and dsl within linux and that it is not currently the most popular os in common useage..non the less old habits die hard..
The dsl forum can be credited in my opinion with being one of the best..questions are answered promptly and timely to the best ability of the members without excessive rudeness like one often finds elsewere....I digress...the point is this question was ask and deserves a response... which it got..however as I failed to find this in the getting started and knew the answer..I reposted it..so what version of the getting started page has this info and is this updated file available for download..if not further posts for this may be directed to a thread with it...the reason people want to do this is because they find firefox to slow on there equipment and or desire to actually use dillo without the getting started page and without its popup every boot. so even after reading the getting started page they will desire to do this...I am happy to learn if it has been added to the bottom of newer versions..this was a past topic of discussion I did not follow to the end.
Yes, it has been added to the newer versions.
I did not intend to be rude about it, but probably was wrong to assume that a new poster was using the latest downloaded version. I know, for example, that there are a couple of magazines out there that are distributing older version, so it's possible this person is using an older version without the info at the end. On the other hand, this has become a very commonly asked, and answered question, and that is why the info was added to the end of the getting started page. I found the information very quickly with a search of the forum. I could have said, "search the forum."
I think it's important to learn those skills, but perhaps my answer was overly brief. I'm sorry I did not explain in much more detail.
My point was also intended to be as much, "please read the Getting Started page" as is was "the information is in there." I would like to encourage people to read the "Getting Started" page because Robert updates it withe each release, and it really, truly, can help any user get started on the right foot.
I also think it would be good to put it in a locked duscussion at the top of the forum so people can see it without opening Dillo, if they want.
Also, I was not picking on you about explaining the information further. I'm glad you did actually.
Again, I appologize for being over brief in my response.
Back at ya..it was not my intent to do other than point out that the poster likely did not have the latest version and I think, like myself, newbies barge in looking for solution without wanting to read many posts that do not regard there current desire to solve an issue and get useing...so questions tend to get repeated...for me this repeatition gives an opportunity to actually helpout as I have little to add to hardcore enthusiasts interests..and those that can answer such questions may be less occupied should new members do the same where possible...which is most likely already the case..so its all good
btw..I would agree that the current getting started page should be at the top of the forum..this would allow a response like "read the getting started at the top of the page" as it would be very obvious as the first listing seen. and may answer many faq's in a faster way than searching posts..the search feature is handy but may not always find the basics as fast as reading the getting started and the current listing here could be easily updated, in the event a poster was useing an older version it would be a quick copy/paste.
this may have already ben discussed..so I will leave it at sorry and I agree
maybe if the name was changed to "DSL FAQ"...........who knows?
torp
Well, I have looked everywhere with emelFM SuperUser and cannot find the .xinitrc file or folder or what ever it's supposed to be. That program doesn't even have a Search function.
The last paragraph in the Dillo:Getting_Started is NOT helpfull to a NEW user.:angry: It doesn't tell you ANYTHING.
