Apps :: Xine wont play dvd's
ok i downloaded the codepak.dsl and it worked the dvd now plays, but its realy skipy and drops to many frames, is there anyway i can speed up my system so i can watch dvd's cleanly? i only had xine open when playogn the dvd, will uninstalling progrmas i dont use speed it up enough to get dvd's to run cleanly? if not do u got any other ideas?
Uninstalling applications will help only if those apps are installed into ram, such as mydsl apps added to a live CD or frugal.
Try turning on dma for your DVD drive (sudo hdparm -d1 /dev/XXX or use the "dma" boot parameter)
Your system specs may be something to consider. What is it's speed, memory, etc?
i am not exactly sur eof my system specs, i have an IBM thinkpad 600e and i am pretty sure it hasnt been upgraded.
I used to have a 600E and it was 800Mhz, 256Mb RAM.
If you are running a current version of DSL, you can:
Right click on desktop to get the menu, go to System -> System Stats
A window will pop up and tell you all kinds of neat stuff, including (but not limited to): CPU speed and type, memory, version of DSL, etc.
That said, my 600E did not have a DVD drive, so I can not say how well it did playing DVD's. Sorry.
