NetFlix is a great thing... It's one of those services that deliver DVD's to your door. I have nothing to compare it to and the other providers might be just as good but I've been catching up on some movies I've missed.

I thought I'd ask people what movies they have enjoyed watching to give me some ideas for future DVD's to rent.

Let me give you an idea of what I've watched recently that I've liked.

In no particular order.....

American Beauty - There should be a motion picture rating on this that says you have to be over 40 and a male to watch this movie.

American Pie ( 1 and 2 ) - What can I say, it made me laugh. Now that I'm older I can see the humor from both sides.

Dr. Stranglove - You had to live through the cold war to see the humor.

Citizen Kane - "Rosebud"

Parenthood - I think that's the name. It's with Steve Martin and was made a bunch of years ago. It's funny. If you have kids and brothers and sisters and life seems a mess, take heart, you're doing OK.

There's another Steve Martin film (he plays a minor part) I think it's called Grand Canyon. I liked it but I don't think it got much from critics.

Just some off the top of my head. What movies have you watched that you would like to share.

The Transporter - awesome driving skills, some fighting and shooting
The Blind Swordsman (Zatoichi) - Kung Fu flick, good story
The Butterfly Effect - good story, makes you say "hmmmm.."
Once Upon A Time In Mexico - pretty funny with good action and story
Second Hand Lions - great story, great family movie
Ice Age - super funny, animated, great for kids and adults
Last Man Standing - Bruce Willis action, shoot 'em up, mob stuff
The Bourne Identity - spy stuff, good action, good story
The Bourne Supremecy - ditto
Around the World in 80 Days - Jackie Chan, funny, good family movie

I can't even begin to guess what movies someone would like based on a few examples.  As for myself, I've enjoyed many that I thought i wouldn't, and disliked many i thought I'd love.

Some of the good ones I've seen recently::
Mirrormask
White Noise
Hotel Rwanda
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Four Brothers
Final Cut
Danny Deckchair

Some I've watched multiple times and plan to watch again:
Hackers
Dark City
Snatch
Pulp Fiction
Hellboy
Reservoir Dogs
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Big Fish
I, Robot
Gangs of New York
Lord of the Rings
The Matrix
Fight Club
Full Metal Jacket
(definitely not a full list...i just couldn't think of many other than ones i've seen recently)

Forgot about Ice Age and some of the others of that genre. Good movie written for both kids and adults.

I saw the first 'Bourne' movie. Thanks for reminding me. I want to see the second one.

The Butterfly Effect... never heard of it but I like movies that leave me thinking.  There is a movie called 'Pi' that has that 'leaves you wondering...' ending. I thought that was pretty good.

Around the world in 80 days... I got to admit you had me thinking about the 1960's production of this, then I read 'Jackie Chan...'

...

oh yeah.. White Noise and A Series of Unfortunate Events are on the list to be seen. I like Keaton (ok, maybe not the Batman movie but Mr.Mom, or whatever that movie was called, was very good).

Danny Deckchair??? Never heard of it but the name is unusual enough to make me want to try it.

Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, I've seen but I guess I'm not much of a QuentonTarintino(?) fan.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... wild book, haven't seen the flick but I don't know how it could do the book justice.

Lord of the Rings - I thought the movies were very good. Very true to the books and well produced.

Hotel Rwanda I've been unsure about seeing because I thought it would be too much of a 'downer'. The subject matter is pretty heavy.

The Matrix (at least the first movie) very good.

I forgot some on my list....

Office Space ... For anyone who's lived in a Dilbert type cubesville... Ahhhh, the joys of watching a sun rise from your cube because you've spent the night trying to get the Widget Report to come out correctly....

Anne Hall... I haven't seen this flick in years but it really spoke to me back when it first came out. Everyone who saw it could pick out a character that was them. I'm not sure if it's aged well.

Add this one to the "quirky" list. It's a 1960's black and white flick called Mr. Buddwing (or was it Buddwick?.. dang my memory..). Saw it on TCM. Guy wakes up with amnesia and spends time meeting new people that cause flashback memories. I never saw it before, must have been a box office flop. Must have been "far out" for it's time.
