water cooler :: Debian Web Server Disto Recomendation
I have an old-er desktop that I'd like to run an small e-commerce app on for my wife's business (still deciding on ClickCartPro {Perl based} or Lite Commerce {PHP based})
I currently have SME Server loaded on the box but I've become so "hooked" on DSL that I'd like something Debian based. Not to mention the fact that SME Server just got snarfed up by Lycoris and I don't know how much time they'll spend supporting the GPL version of the product.
I like the fact of how SME makes things pretty simple in terms of pre-configuration and adminstration of box but I almost think it controls things too much. Everytime I make some change I'm worried that I'll break something that SME has configured.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience or could recomend a Debian based distro that might be somewhat similar to SME Server in terms of adminstration?
I will want to run Apache, PHP, Perl, mySQL, mail (probably qmail)... pretty much the basics....
I was just thinking of installing everything from scratch starting with Debian, but I *REALLY* wanted to avoid having to configure *EVERYTHING* from scratch. (translated... the more I have to configure the more chances I'll make a mistake...)
Appreciate any guidance.
You can still use Apache httpd with DSL (with apt-get)
You wont be able to find many pre-built distros out there...cept for a few
I would recommend ClarkConnect
