water cooler :: Camping out for DSL

Interbreeding and cider abuse manifested in emergence of 1st psychiatric institutions; on English Welsh border in the 19th century. Fear is that compassion will cease to be.

Wish a fraction of what George wants to spend on atomic power stations, spent on redundant nuclear submarine Timebombs.
Life goes on. Not to worry.

Anyway, where I live I can't get a cellphone signal, and 4 rather than 5 TV channels. I suppose I should be grateful!?!

Wow! 5 channels!? Where I live, we only get 2 channels on peasant vision (thats what we call it out where I live if your only tv is via the old fasion antenna/wabbit ears). Fortunately, my family has been on cable tv for the past 5 or 6 years.

What's cable TV?

What's cable TV?

A monthly bill I can't afford, lol. I haven't had it since my thirteen year old was an infant, but I think it costs about:

25.00 USD = 14.0493 GBP

to get four channels coming in clearly and about:

60.00 USD = 33.7057 GBP

if you want special channels for movies, sports, news, etc.

Cable companies also offer broadband service, which is faster or slower than ADSL, depending on where you live. Hopefully somebody can correct me if I'm way off about the cable television rates, because I'm not a big fan of the kind of television shows shown in the US, to put it mildly.

I'm a dial-up maniac personally, but that and no cable TV sure don't do anything to endear me to my  neighbors, who consider me about halfway between an eccentric and a lunatic. ;)

I haven't watched TV regularly since '96, but my boy has a $10 thrift store special  he has to keep in his room. Usually I can find transcripts or video clips of what I want to know about online, but sometimes I do watch special  news reports.

I've heard from multiple sources that I won't be able to do this in a couple of years unless I shell out the money for a digital TV; the bottom-of-the-line costs more than my laptop, so I have no intention whatsoever of doing so.

I pay about 35 bucks for 130 chanels, on demand (movies and shows that you start) and another 40 for my broadband.
