water cooler :: More reasons to use linux & open source

Quote (noclobber @ May 10 2005,15:02)
*sigh*...

These guys just never learn, do they?

They want to have their cake - and everybody else's - and eat it too.  Makes me wonder who would ever buy such a system.

Reminds me a little of DAT (Digital Audio Tape) back in the early 1980s.  It looked like a potentially useable technology, but the media industry whined so loudly about it that they ended up saddling it with so much encryption and copy protection B.S. that they effectively killed it off.  Fortunately, in another decade or two, CD blanks and recorders eventually became affordable to the masses.

Who speaks for the little guys like us - the consumers - at the end of the line?  All we want is something that *works*.

And people wonder why I'm getting more P.O.ed at characters like Bill Gates every year.

Long live open standards!

Sadly,  a large percentage of the masses will buy it.  As the article states,  they are and will continue to put incredible marketing spin on selling it.  People (non-linux community) will be fooled into thinking that it is better/safer/etc.  It will be adopted without much question unless someone brings attention to it otherwise, in terms that the average mindless consumer can understand.

I don't know how to use 'Quote' properly. I was only trying to quote one line

"Makes me wonder who would ever buy such a system."

sorry
