myDSL Extensions (deprecated) :: MyDsl help needed

Frugal install, 256mb ram, grub boot loader (modified menu.lst) using mydsl=hda3 (my data partition).  When I place samba.dsl in /mnt/hda3 to load at boot or in /mnt/hda3/optional for on demand loading I receive the following error message:

tar: Cannot create directory `etc/samba': No such file or directory
tar: etc/samba/smb.conf: No such file or directory

The procedure I follow to install samba.dsl is:
I download samba.dsl using the mydsl panel and save to the /tmp directory.  I then sudo emelfm and move samba.dsl to either one of the hda3 locations mentioned above.  I then run emelfm as user dsl and click mydsl to install samba.  However when I reboot it does not reload either automatically or optionally depending where I place samba.dsl.

I would appreciate any help you could provide.

I'm serving FAT32 shares (share mode) from my dual-booting DSL box. Is this what you're trying to do?

If I remember correctly, all I did was bring in Samba with the DSLpanel tool. No mucking around with emelfm. The only gotcha was that smb.conf got clobbered at each reboot until I added /etc/samba/smb.conf to the .filetool.lst so it would be preserved.

Hope this helps.
