USB booting :: booting dsl on ipod shuffle (fat32)
Hi,
got dsl working on an Apple iPod shuffle mp3 player. works just fine, I really impressed.
But is it possible to use the ipod as a music player/data storage AND a bootable USB stick at the same time?
The standard usb-installation from the live-cd gives a fat16 filesystem. I believe the iPod shuffle's standard is fat32
Anybody got a hint how to do it?
Found a good idea on http://cool-stuff-or-not.blogspot.com/2005....ol.html
but I'm not experienced enough to do this. (especially with grub)
thanks,
n.
Last I knew, the DSL USB bootloader, called SYSLINUX, did not work on FAT32 partitions, only regular FAT ones.
So it is likely that you would need to use something like GRUB to do your bootloading of DSL from a FAT32 USB device like a Shuffle. It should be do-able, but would require manual configuration.
I'm interested in this too. Another solution, although you might waste a few megabytes is to create a 50mb partition for DSL. Hopefully this might stop itunes from eraseing DSL when you click add songs.
