USB booting :: usb dsl configuration

** Further experience with installation**

Please see a previous thread of "unable to boot from usb"
I use SATA therefore only version 2.1b supports it. Trying to install from version 2.1b in an zip-usb has problems. For example using the install option (apps/tools/install to usb pendrive) produce errors and it does not format the 2 partitions. Initially I formatted under other OS and then updated and install in a single partition. Now the trick I use was to install dls version 2.3 which installs perfect then go to 2.1b an update and that did the trick. So I wish they would add sata option to 2.3 !. (I read the map and yes I believe dsl has to go to 2.6 kernel)

** I have not found any place where there there is a description of where you do the configuration changed that stick in the next reboot **

I know all of you that have been using dsl for a while is obvious but is not to me. Here few "wonderings"

.filetool.lst  why we do not have the location were the file is? /ramdisk/home/dsl  is this the correct path?
If I understand correctly any changes we do in the ramdisk if the paths are in that file it will be copy to the usb and then will be read back during the next booting. Is this correct.

scripts. Where do they go? How do they get call.
For example if we need to configure a NIC we create a script and place it in
KNOPPIX/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
Then call them form
/KNOPPIX/opt/bootlocal.sh
Is this correct?
What's the difference between /KNOPPIX/etc/sysconf.....
and /etc/sysconf.......

/cdrom  I read if you want your MyDSL application to boot automatically you place it there. Yes?

Finally in emelef some files are shadow and others are not. Does it mean that the shadows' are in RAM?

Any tips of suggestions or where to read it will be appreciated.

TIA
