USB booting :: USB Install
Ok, Ive Tryed My Lexar 256MB Jump Drive In EVERY Single USB Port In My Pc, But It Just Will Not Install. "PENDrive Install"
Weird Thing Is, I Boot The LiveCD And USe My Jump Drive As A Backup Device And It Reads/Writes No Problem!
PS: how do i attach images?
Looks like you have something going on that's keeping the pendrive from unmounting when it should before partitioning. You may need to use cfdisk to delete all partitions, and then format the pendrive as a single FAT16 partition before you attempt the install. I also suspect this is a problem with a number of people who have been trouble with pendrives after an install attempt. BLKRRPART forces a re-read of the SCSI partition tables - which is how DSL sees (or should see) your Lexar jump disk. However, I noticed that when you typed "Y" to display the USB storage information, that no information was returned.
Rebooted And Follow Your Instructions. Still Errors. I Really Like This DSL. Its Very Easy To Use. Could You Post A Winimg Of Your PenDrive? I Tryed Winimg By Putting The USBbootfloppy.img And Copying The Content Of The CD To The Drive, No Go. Will Not Boot. My BISO Says [USB RMD-FDD Lexer ] As A Boot Option.
I have used the USB HDD install scripts many times on many different USB sticks and with different versions of DSL and they all work. You are having trouble just installing DSL to the pendrive which means something is wrong in the way the script is interacting with your current setup. Are you sure the pendrive is not mounted when you start the install?
I had the exact same problem, but I came up with this solution.
I did a five-way install. I simply downloaded the dsl-embedded zipfile and unzipped it to my pendrive. Afterwards I syslinux'ed my pendrive to make it bootable.
This was the only convenient alternative I could come up with, short of using floppies to boot DSL on my CD-less laptop.
