USB booting :: Fantom MTT40 USB Hard Drive

Hi All,
I purchased a 40gig Fantom USB hard drive and am trying to get DSL to recognize it.  I have read and tried several actions, but still cannot seem to get it working.  When I USBView, I can see the device, here is the output of view.

VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0
USB to IDE

USB Version 2.00
Device Class: 00(>ifc )
Device Subclass: 00
Device Protocol: 00
Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 64
Number of Configurations: 1
Vendor id: 048d
Product id: 8903
Revision Number : 2.00

When I 'lsusb' here is the output:

Bus 003 Device 002: ID 04e8:0100 Samsung Electronic Co., Ltd - My Pen Drive
Bus 001 Device 002: Device 002: ID 048d:8903 Integrated Technology Express, Inc. - the Fantom 40gig usb hd

I have tried to address the hd as sdb, etc and no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.  The pen drive is booting the system fine, but would like to get the hd working so I could boot from it.

Thanks in Advance
Steve

is it formatted? maybe it's the geometry? plug in the drive after boot, wait 20 secs and see what new /mnt/sdxx 's appear/

then try > sfdisk -l /dev/sdx

where x=a,b,c..etc

After boot and plugging in the USB HD, nothing shows in /mnt.  Must be a compatibility problem with the drive and the USB system.  Works fine with W2K and 98SE, so I guess I will have a drive for those machines, and look for another solution for the Mini-IXT.

Does anyone know of a USB Hard Drive that will work with DSL????

Thanks in advance

Steve
