USB booting :: Total boot time?

How long would a 1Ghz VIA board take to boot off of a standard USB 2.0 Flash drive?

What about from a IDE to CF adapter, or a hard drive?

I'm making an appliance, and am wondering what kind of boot times I'll have to deal with.
