USB booting :: usb boot disk fails to boot from usb stick
Hi, after using DSL live cd a couple of times and liking it I wanted to step up a little (saving settings, files etc.). So I bought a USB Stick (1 gig) and did a USB HDD install which gave me one partition with knoppix iso etc. on it.
Since my bios doesn't support booting from usb directly I then made a usb boot disk. But it doesn't work.
On boot I get to the cheatcode screen. When i hit enter it loads the syslinux and the minirt24. I think after that I should see the "welcome to dsl boot screen" (with tux in the upper left corner) but all I get is a black screen as if my monitor is shut off.
Anybody knows a workaround for that?
I even tried the cheatcode dsl fromhd=/dev/sda1 but I get the same result.
Am I missing something?
I am working on a PIII 866 Mhz, Siemens D1184 motherboard.
with the live cd, did you use a framebuffer or vesa ?
maybe you need an fb cheatcode?
