USB booting :: lexar jump issue

I actually have DSL running on the exact same Lexar ThumbDrive with no issues.  The one thing different that I did from you was that I formatted the drive with a FAT system from within my Debian install.  Aside from that I had no trouble.  Hope that helps.  :)
Thanks...ya it helps a little...I will grab another lexar as it will work and I have conformation...I admit I just formatted and it was likely fat32...dsl is automatic and my guess was fat16...will try fat as I have a few just now..oh the mindless moments of potential joy...:)
update:
Ok grabbed another lexar pen today
booted live cd(2.4) and chose install to penhdd
went fine...shut down
rebooted usb hdd..runs dsl
ok great
now I want to add the .dsl and tar.gz additions

install is no issue they work as on hd install
I chose backup\restore from menu
it ask for device I chose sda1 and click backup
also tried cdrom
shutdown and boot
try dsl restore=sda1
try boot to desktop and chose backup restore from menu and type sda1 restore
also cdrom in the other attempt..
have read several posts and am not understanding the process..

sorry old news but need some help
thanks for any

Oh well...will mess with it until I destroy this pen and give up...I am sure it is simple if I knew what to do...I understand I am running in ram and lose all for that reason..sda1 is a single partition created by dsl...do I need to creat a second before install to store .dsl and tar.gz ...BAH...nevermind...carryon
it is simple basically speaking,,,,save extensions to the CDROM directory but not the second or third cdrom directory THE FIRST and backup/restore to sda1,,,YAh...boot dsl restore=sda1

but I AM haveing the same issue I had with the non frugal install....beaver will not save settings or to a directory...the solution was to reinstall...so off I go.

I am so slow at this stuff there is already a newer version..from what I read it is even easier..and has built in extension?...cool  :0
