USB booting :: USB boot compatability list

would it work on a computer that the USB drive doesnt support, i.e. a windows 95 computer? because I have a sandisk cruzer micro 256mb that I want to run it on but I dont know if my win95 will recognize it at all. its an HP pavillion 8160 if that helps.

The main operating system choice that is installed on the hard drive does not affect the USB boot success or failure.

However, it is unlikely that any computer that is old enough that Windows 95 was the preinstalled OS is probably too old for USB booting, even with BIOS upgrades. But I could be wrong.

However, it is still possible to boot from a USB stick if you use the USB boot floppy disk together with the USB stick.

The ASRock K7VT4A Pro boots DSL fine from USB key.

(And, as mentioned somewhere above, that cheap Fry's GQ 3121 (AMD Sempron 2200+ based) PC with the ECS 741GX-M motherboard also boots DSL well from the USB key.)

I'm using DSL 1.4 on my Toshiba Satellite M30-404 Laptop. Booting is no problem, once you access the bios with the stick plugged in. If you do, you'll find that there is the USB drive under "hard drives" and you can change the boot-order so that the stick precedes the harddisk.

The USB pendrive is an older USB1.1 64MB from Trekstor. Works without trouble after installing DSL 1.4 through the "install to USB Pendrive" from a running DSL.
