USB booting :: quick help

I had this problem - I think the issue is that DSL embedded is isolated from your machines hardware as a consequence of running in a window - you would need to connect to your HD, USB drive etc by using FTP (see posts on Samba DSL elsewhere in the forums) which probably would not allow you to create a bootable USB stick.

I think your only option is to burn a CD, boot from the CD and then make the boot USB - this worked for me.

You are correct.

You need to boot DSL natively (IE: from a livecd disk) in order to  create a bootable USB device.

Great thanks that worked....

but ive just discovered i cant boot from USB, Sony locks alot of the settings in the BIOS and 'dummed it down' so I cant set the option to boot from USB if though :(

trying to find a work around but i cant

Worst case, you can use a usb boot floppy disk.
