USB booting :: If BIOS doesn't support USB boot, can I use CD...
If usb booting isn't supported in the BIOS, can I boot off of the cd, yet have it boot the OS that's on the flash drive? Are there any options one can pass at boot time, for example "root=/dev/sda" like you can do with GRUB?
dsl fromhd=/dev/sda1
might work
Thanks for the reply. I gave that a shot, but no luck. I ended up downloading the usb boot floppy, and wrote it to a biz card cd, and that worked.
dumb question from noob
how do i write the disk bootimage to cd so i can do the same as u did initial boot from cdroom and run os from the pendrive ??
Nothing special is required - just a normal dsl cd will do (burnt iso etc)
You can also make a floppy that will boot usb from one of the menu - but this is unpractical if you dont have a floppy drive, so;
Use a dsl cd, it will automatically search for install data on usb drives, but you can use a boot command to tell it where to look if that dosent work. It will then load backups etc automatically aswell (but you can tell it where to look). Just boot it normally.
This is a lot easier then what pangean did, as you shouldnt actually need to do that... hope I didnt piss you off by not actually answering the question, oh well.
