DSL Embedded :: Help in running embedded DSL
Hello everyone. I hope that you can help me here.
I recently downloaded the DSL embedded and was very excited to try it. As soon as downloading completed, I extracted the .zip file to C:\DSL and as the readme.txt stated that to run embedded in Windows, just double-click on dsl-windows.bat which I did but much to my dismay, nothing happened.
What do I do? Please help!!!
What you have to do is extract minirt24.gz to the folder it is in and run the bat file again. That should fix the problems. I had same problem until I did that. It would load up but fail to boot up.
I think he means this:
Make sure that you extract the ZIP file so that the extracted files will appear inside their subdirectories.
In other words, you should see a
KNOPPIX
and a
qemu
subdirectory inside your zip extraction location.
If I were mentalnoise i think i'd be confused. I'm not mentalnoise and i'm confused. Why would you need to extract the files and then extract more files in order for this to work?
I just latched onto this thread because i'd like to know how to respond when people ask about dsl embedded...but so far it seems rather redundant....extract and extract again? does the zip file not retain directories?
Depending on the type of "unzip" program used, it is possible to unzip ALL files into the target directory.
In other words, all of the embedded files including the files that are normally located inside subdirectories "KNOPPIX" and "qemu" will be placed into one directory and no subdirectory called "KNOPPIX" or "qemu" will be created.
So the problem is not with the zip file retaining the subdirectories. The problem is with the specific "unzip" utility program used, and it's default settings of unzip ALL files into the same directory and ignore the original subdirectory tree.
