DSL Embedded :: Can't run batch files...
Yea, so i downloaded DSL-Embedded so i could run Linux on the computers at my school. But for some crazy reason, the admins have disabled the command prompt, which means that i cant run batch files. Is there any other way to run DSL-Embedded without using a batch file?
I'll assume you don't have "Run" access either? (Winkey+R)
If you can create shortcuts, you can make one to qemu.exe by:
- opening up dsl-windows.bat in a text viewer
- copy the options that appear on the same line after qemu.exe
- create a shortcut to qemu.exe, then add the options to it (via properties)
Of course if you can't, you could always download another dos package, or compile/find a program that will launch qemu with the options.
Ive tried all of those, i even wrote a VB program to run the exe with the options and it didnt like it at all. I even tried to download DOS emulators and noting i tried worked. The string of options is too long to fit into any textbox in windows, so i cant make a shortcut out of it. Is there anything else that i could possibly try?
VB: this should work, unless this is a limitation of the language itself (what was the problem?). Try another language?
DOS: what did you try and didn't work?

Can you even run other (external) programs on those machines?
this is just a wild guess, but did you think that there may be a rational explanation for the Admin disabling the prompt? It has a lot to do with keeping school property somewhat protected from hostile or otherwise potentially hazardous activity. If it were me, I would speak with the Admin about your desire to run a live distro on school machines. My guess is they'll probably tell you that such activity is prohibited.
