DSL Embedded :: knoppix image not found?

Try booting with "noscsi" cheatcode and see if that works first.
Hi again!

What I meant by saying try dsl-embedded is to use only that and not using anything else. Just unzip dsl-embedded to your flash-drive and try to boot. If your bios doesn't support booting directly from usb you can boot your flash-drive using a dsl-cd with a cheatcode like: dsl fromhd=/dev/sda1 and so on. I'm pretty sure that the drive will be labelled as sda1 being an usb device. By the way, is it the little round usb-harddrive from Seagate with a retractable cable that you have?

Hope it works out have fun,

i have tried the instructions in the dsl readme(I suggest work on the readme file(needs more detail)). it boots to the pretty syslinux splash screen, i press enter it loads and boots the kernel, it searches for the image fails to find it then drops me to the basic shell with 5 commands. i have tryied fromhd=/dev/sdXy i have an scsi harddrive so it currently occupies sda1, sdb1 is what i use for my flashdrive on my fedora linux distro but that doesn't seem to work

also yes it is, I like being able to carry an entire dvds worth of useless in my pocket for no reason whatsoever.

Hi again sai_rabbit!

There is a simple method to see what your usb-drive is mounted as in DSL. Just boot the cd and check what options are found in the mount-app which you will find at the bottom right hand corner. Click on fd0 and keep on until you find it. Hope it works out!

Have fun,

I had the same problem using DSL embedded version 3.01.

Try version 3.0!
This worked immediately fine with me!

Good luck! Brekki

Sorry, my assumtion above was not correct:
the reason for "cannot find knoppix image ...dropping to very restricted shell" was not the version of DSL_embedded!

I tried to check what I did in detail to get it running, especially which module caused the problem:

Initially I tried to install DSL on a CD (with some other stuff) and wanted to be able to run DSL as well booted from Isolinux as in the embedded vesion under QEmu from the same medium (CD in this case).

To omit having all the stuff twice (standard and embedded) I roughly check for differences, but obviously not carefully enough.

As a result of this, I started DSL under qemu using the non-embedded, CD version of the "minirt24.gz". This is different from the embedded version with the same filename!

Using the embedded version of "minirt24.gz" when starting DSL trough qemu (dsl-windows.bat) works fine, even with DSL version 3.01.
I didn't check yet if the embedded version of "minirt24.gz" works when starting from isolinux, bat one can separate both files in different directories and call from the batch-file used to start with qemu the version you need.

As far as I can see, all other files (especially the big, knoppix) do not have to be kept twice.

Good success   Brekki
