DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Dillo - Getting Started page - Cut and Paste info



One of the confusing things for me when I got started with DSL and Linux was reading the Cut'n'Paste blurb in the Getting Started page.

It reads as if all cut and paste operations on the system require the mouse button clicking.  This isn't true of course, each application controls it's own cut and paste commands with Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Shift+Insert being the most common

Would you please rewrite the paragraph a tiny bit so that it's clear that it is directed to cut and paste for the console?

2) When I click on Help in the Apps folder, it brings up Dillo but it isn't the DSL Getting Started page.  Seems to me that this is the intent of th shortcut, no?

Not every application support Ctrl-C Ctrl-V and/or not into a system wide paster buffer. It is the mouse cut-n-paste that those new to Linux may not know about.

The "?" icon has been fixed in 4.2 to display the "Getting Started" page.
Yes, I agree.  The problem is that the paragraph doesn't make that distinction and I am always trying to use the mouse-clicks to copy/paste and they don't seem to function anywhere except the console.  Am I missing something?  I'm happy for the info the paragraph gives, just think it needs to specify that the mouse-clicking might only be for console.

Also curious, I've never seen the Mouse Wizard run, neither from LiveCD nor from first run HD install.  I'd like to try the two-button simulation of middle-button.  I guess I can run the Mouse Wizard manually.  Will try.

It probably different perspectives, I just used the mouse cut and paste to paste your quoted section within Firefox (not a console application).

Booting with option xsetup or exiting X and running xsetup.sh will allow to select 2 button mouse.

That's good information to have, thank you Robert.  I'll continue trying to set up my mouse.  I watched a colleague use mouse copy at the office yesterday (on AIX) and it looked very, very useful.  Knowing that it's my setup helps me perservere.
