You can do some good stuff with just "cdrecord" and "mkisofs", but I am at a loss to explain when IDE-SCSI emulation is not enabled by default.

Usually when booting from livecd, it will be enabled.

For loadlin, you put it in the same spot as your other kernel append parameters, either as a parameter in the loadlin command itself, or inside a loadlin config file.
