try the Backup/Restore feature found under the System Menu after you have set your resolution using xsetup.

It is only for the boot process

I add vga=0
in my boot options to disable the prompt. instead of 0 use whateva number you choose at the prompt.

I think you need framebuffer support or something for the vga modes.
