now to find out about touchscreen. any hints?

Yup, I have the same notebook, beast of a machine... Anyways you are going to need to install the XFree86 package from myDSL. It is a Gunze touchscreen , so basically follow these directions:
http://ar.linux.it/software/gunzets/

and you are good to go. Just make sure you set up your serial port correctly as the touchscreen is a serial interface... So check the BIOS settings and go from there. Good luck
