DSL Tips and Tricks :: JWM Mouse-less/anti-WIMP reconfiguration
Well, I was using Debian Sarge a while ago, and I was able to get a mouse-less interface. I did this by holding down ctrl+shift+numlock. The numberpad keys could be used to control the on-screen cursor. However, I can't seem to get that feature with Damn Small Linux. (But at the moment, I'm not sure if my numlock is broke; some users state the LED just don't come on.)
That wasn't native to Debian. Which window manager/desktop environment were you using? KDE's control panel allows users to configure the number pad for mouse control. I think Gnome has a similar interface for customizing X settings. DSL has xsetup.sh to configure X. I don't recall seeing an option in xsetup.sh to use number pad for mouse control. Maybe that can be manually configured. Have you asked about that between complaints about seemingly everything else?
There's nothing wrong with your numlock unless your keyboard is broken. Just because the light isn't on doesn't mean it's not working. Type numbers between pressing it and see for yourself. That's usually the easiest way to see if it's working or not.
