The Testing Area :: March Extensions

Update #2:  Offending theme is Crux.  It  causes these issues and more.   Step is also a useless theme, as it has issues of it's own.  Will rebuild the package after further testing shows that this is the root cause and cure.

Most of GTK-1 and -2 themes are buggy to some extent, it's just that some are a lot worse than others. Mepis' developer addressed a (pretty bleeping serious) GTK theme issue in his latest release because the default he'd had in Mepis didn't play nice with Firefox (fifth paragraph):

Lucky13, Thanks for pointing that out.  The package seemed to play well at first or I wouldn't have submitted it.  In light of the general state of GTK themes I guess this is just a case of let the user beware, rather than there being an actual fix.  The default themes in DSL are nice anyway.  Sometimes in Linux, as in life, less really is more.
The user should always beware. Themes are no different from anything else that can be downloaded and installed on a system. Well, save for the fact that GTK themes generally work system-wide on all GTK apps so it can be a little more dicey than simply having one buggy app. It kind of compounds the misery that some GTK apps are buggier than others, too. It's a little chicken/egg when buggy themes meet buggy apps. There's no fix for either except sound judgment.

I have the old switch.dsl downloaded and installed on most of my DSL USB keys and on this DSL hard drive install. I use GTKBe (primarily) and (less occasionally) WindowMaker themes, which haven't caused me any trouble. I've had some serious $%*# problems with certain themes downloaded from freshmeat, though. Some of them are well-conceived and fixable, some are total basketcases.

Thanks to Andrew for an update to gnumeric.dsl

Thanks to Felson for the following:
gtk+-2.10.9.dsl
gtk+-2.10.9_devs.dsl

And in the UNC area:
gtk+-2.10.9.unc
gtk+-2.10.9_devs.unc

Wonder if any of you noticed, but in gaim.unc.info the short description is
"konsole termninal program"
So how about changing that to, um I don't know, maybe "IM client"?
