Apps :: Knoppix Temp files

What kind of installation are you using?

LiveCD, Frugal install, traditional hd install?

Is the UCI file still sitting where you left it?

I downloaded an iso and burnt it onto a CD, and boot from that.

The file was called 'current.iso' and is 2+ weeks old.

I now run up Emilfm highlight the uci file and click 'my dsl' within Emilfm and that puts the Opera ikon on the desktop just for that session.

The main practical problems are running out of ram and swap space and getting the printer running.

Whatever I did to create the swap file, I've not managed to re-create and I think a 256 Mb or bigger would be a good idea.

If anyone else is using DSL for real then getting a practical working system must lead to the same challenges time and time again.

Firefox (?) mopping up all the system resources and not being able to print does stop it being used for any long term serious purpose.

I'd have thought a hack to delete /tmp files etc etc would be crude but effective.

I'm using DSL for real on my laptop and it works great. I installed using a Frugal hard drive install with grub. You can then edit the grub menu.lst file to tell DSL what to do at each bootup, like where to find the "myDSL" apps for example. You put home=hda7 and opt=hda7 for example, and it will create home and opt directories that you can keep your settings and programs in that you want to keep permanent. You can then also assign where you want your myDSL apps to be and they will load at each boot up.
Thank you!   That sounds like what I need!  I've got a USB2 1 GB memory stick showing up.  I assume I can install 'Frugal' onto that?

If you are running only from a liveCD, of course the extenions are not going to persist. Read the "Getting Started" on mydsl extensions. You need to copy them to a persistent storage area and use the appropriate boot option.
