Apps :: need resolution help on intel i810
I Have a monitor with 144x900 native resolution. I can only get 800x600x16 with DSL. I would like to get it a little better, at least 1280x1024.
Should I use XFree86? or is 915resolution a better choice?
Please recommend which should be better.
Thanks.

Try running `Xvesa -listmodes`
(then edit .xserverrc)
Or try a newer tinyx server (there's a bunch of updated ones in mydsl)
Or try a 'full' x server such as XFree86 or Xorg
With XFree86 and Intel 855 graphics, I need to use i855wrap to manage the video memory. With xorg72, there is no need for i855wrap.
You might want to check if your version of Intel graphics chip has similar video memory issues.
A friend of mine has a Sony Vaio with an i810 and only the XFree86 extension worked. You could try the specifc Xi810.tar.gz that is in the testing area of the repository.
