Gtk2 :: Gaim SSL Probs

GNUTLS is the one they want to use, or Firefox NSS/NSPR. GNUTLS will probably be better.

To build the latest Pidgin you also need gtk2, Xfree86-devel, full Perl with XML:Parser.
