Multimedia :: Mplayer won't work

I posted this last nite but it disappeared. DSL 1.5, dsl connection. Installed mplayer, mplayerplugin and codecs from the repository. Mplayer won't play or launch on any of the usual test sites, apple trailers and plugger. Ideas?

Does it work if you download a file to your computer and then load it manually into mplayer?

This will help troubleshoot to see if the problem is the player or the plugin

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't recognize anything to download so I'm thinking it's the plugin. Should I download and install the plugin again?
