Net :: X-Chat not saving Settings

I am a new user of linux, more specifally DSL. The install on an old compaq preasrio 1690 went smooth. But this morning, I went to open x-chat again and I can not get to my favorite IRC server. Is there a reason X-Chat is not saving my settings? What can I do to fix this problem?
