As far as resizing/redrawing, did you do a ctrl-l (small L) after you size the window? If that doesn't work, you might try setting up a separate script or menu entry with aterm -geometry [whatever size] and execute mc in it.
Edit: Hmm, ctrl-l didn't work for me. What I was able to do is resize the terminal to the size I want and then start emelfm.bin.

Is this the same kernel configuration you used for 2.1b so its bootfloppy will work with 4.0?
