Is the 'optional' folder dropped ? the extensions don't appear on the menus neither in jwm nor fluxbox.

Also, do the .app files need to be saved in MyDsL (permanent storage), can't the MyDsL folder be in a ram directory and cleared on shutdown? This way there's half the no.of icons.

When not specifying the location of the mydsl folder,e.g., mydsl=xxxxx,  the mydsl folder is on /tmp (ramdisk) just like it was in 3.x

Will check out optional. I rarely use it. But can't recall that I changed anything. but that is not to say that I didn't break it. Note that optional and modules need to be under the mydsl/ directory.

I have fromhd=/dev/hdc2 mydsl=hdc1,
so how to have the .app files put in /tmp/mydsl (which is empty) instead of hdc1/mydsl ?
(what happens if hdc1 is read-only storage ?)

I dont know if this was mentioned yet:

From what I gather, you could:
- try using swap
- revert back to 0.17
- use conky
