Thanks but I guess feather linux running on USB pen has something that avoids this video error on the crappy Dells with their INtel graphics.

GRUB works with my Compaq and its Winmodem even works! I still can't get the Stratitec modem that I bought at Wal-Mart to connect with the live CD after redoing my backup file.

Testing dsl 2.0 rc1 , would like to report that bsflite doesn't work bye me ...only nirc seems to work ...hoping it will be debug ...

Didn't realize it was a wlan thing. Broadcom wlan is only supported with ndiswrapper, due to Broadcom being generally sucky anyway.

You have no idea how often that centericq is suggested, but the fact is, less than 1/10 the size of centericq, and supports the most common protocals (AIM and irc).

I dunno. On my centericq contact list I have about a hundred AOL contacts and only 60 or so Yahoo, 60 MSN and 50 ICQ.

But on any given day, there seem to be more Yahoo and MSN folks than AOL easy. And my ICQ clients are more important. They are people I've known on IM for almost a decade.
Granted, not saying you should try to make room on your CD for a multiclient, but it *is* one of the more common uses of a computer. Between that and web browsing...
Personally, I don't care of course, since I prefer to connect to my home machine to use chat.

BTW. Disabling everything but those two "more common" protocols you listed shrank centericq from 3.5M to 2.1M (yes, still much bigger)

I imagine with a little creativity one could dynamically link them all and simply let folks download the protocols they wanted to access.
Other ways to strip things down too. Get rid of many of the neat interface and history bits added recently. And of course that 2.1M includes ICQ as well as AIM and IRC.
